Return Rod (French Curtain Rod)

Our 7/8" diameter return rods (French rods) are handmade to your specifications with a graceful 90 degree return at each end.

French return curtain rods are not just for looks! This sleek design was made to keep the light from peeking out from behind your curtains. Great for bedrooms or spaces where you want to have control over the brightness of the room. This also adds a few inches of extra rod on each side that goes into the wall making it a great choice for tight spaces. French return curtain rods allow the drapes to stack back against the wall giving you a clean and polished look.

The projection on this rod is 3.5" to rod center.7/8″ rods over 72″ long will require one center support mount , over 144″ requires two, over 215″ requires three and so on.

The standard mounting bracket used are 3/4" wide by 4" high.

1.75in C-Rings and Bypass Mounts are required if you need the curtain to draw past the support mounts. If you require a bypass mount, please let us know in the "Special Instructions" box.

To order a French Return on one side only, use the "Special Instructions" box to tell us which side needs an end mount and which side needs a 90-degree return

Details & Dimensions

Our 7/8″ diameter return rods (French rods) are hand made to your specifications with a graceful 90 degree return at each end.  the projection on these rods is 3.5″ to rod center.

To protect your rod from damage during shipping it is best for us to split 7/8″ diameter rods over 73″ in the center and ship in two pieces. Rest assured, we can easily guarantee that any of our joined curtain rods will be as strong and functional as a one-piece curtain rod. When our rods are split for shipping, they and joined together internally with a center connector so there is never a bump for your curtains to hang up on.

How to measure windows for French Return curtain rods:

Return rods have a 90 degree return back to the wall. One advantage of this is that you can utilize this curved area of the rod to stack the drape which will reduce the wall space that the curtain stack requires to clear the window. Keep in mind that it does look nice to have your curtains loosely gathered and not bunched up tight when drawn so opt for a bit longer rod rather than crowding the window with the drapes. Return rods are measured just like straight rods, the overall length on your wall. A 60″ return rod will measure exactly 60″ on your wall.

Measure the window width, and add enough on each side so that the drapes will block the light around the sides of the window, and allow the drape to slide sufficiently off of the window when they are opened. This measurement is the drapery rod length. Leave enough room on the outside end of the return for your curtains to wrap around the rod, a 3″ minimum clearance is recommended.

Order changes on custom curtain rods can be made within 24 hours of placing the order. Since all curtain rods are custom cut to your measurements, we can not make changes after the 24 hours.
